Linking a social sign-in to your existing account

When we ask for your password during a Google or Apple sign-in, here's why — and what to do.

Why we ask for your password

If you signed up with an email and password and then later try to sign in with Google or Apple using the same email address, we'll politely pause and ask you to enter your existing password first. Here's why:

We noticed you already have a ShareLocket account with that email. Before we connect your social sign-in to it, we want to be sure it's really you. The password check is that proof. Without it, anyone who happens to have a Google or Apple account with your email could quietly take over your account — and we don't want that.

What happens after

Once you enter the right password, your social sign-in is permanently linked to your account. From then on, tapping Continue with Google (or Apple) signs you in instantly — no password needed.

If you can't remember your password

  1. Tap Forgot your password? on the same screen.
  2. We'll email a verification code to the email on file.
  3. Enter the code, set a new password, and you'll be signed in.

Once you're back in, you can connect the social sign-in from your account settings — same effect as if you'd entered the password during the prompt.

If you mistype your password a few times in a row, we'll briefly lock the account for about 15 minutes for your safety. The same lockout applies here. You can wait it out, or use Forgot your password? any time.
