Who can see tags?
Tags are private to your album by default — here's exactly who can see them.
The short answer
By default, only approved members of an album — people who've signed in and joined — can see who's tagged in a photo or post. Anyone just visiting a public link without an account won't see tag names unless the album owner has specifically turned that on.
Who can add a tag?
Only approved members can add a tag. Someone just visiting a public album link, without signing in, can never add a tag themselves — this keeps tagging a trusted, members-only activity.
The owner's two tagging settings
From the album's settings, the owner can adjust how tagging works for everyone:
- Turn tagging on or off — tagging is on by default, but the owner can switch it off for the whole album at any time.
- Choose who can see tags — the default keeps tag names visible to members only. The owner can opt in to also show tags to anyone viewing a public album, even without an account.
Your own tags are always yours to remove
No matter what the album's visibility setting is, if you're the person (or the pet parent) tagged in a photo, you can remove that tag any time you like — and once you do, no one else can add it back. This is true even for the album owner.
"Who is this?" questions
Suggested names for an unanswered "Who is this?" question stay private while the question is open — only the post's author, the album owner, or a co-editor can see the individual suggestions as they come in. Everyone else just sees that a question exists and how many people have chipped in, not the actual guesses, until it's resolved.
