Ask About Counts, Dates, and Ages

Ask how many, when, or how long ago, and get an answer worked out from your circle's own posts, with the posts it used so you can check.

Questions about numbers and dates

Some questions aren't answered by anything a member wrote, but by your circle's posts themselves: how many photos there are, when something happened, or how long ago it was. Ask them the way you'd say them out loud:

  • "How many photos of Grandma are there?"
  • "When was the first time Emma showed up?"
  • "How long since we went to Maine?"
  • "Who was at the reunion?"
  • "Which chapter has the most posts?"

We work these out from what's already on each post you can see: its date, the people and pets tagged in it, its place, and its chapter. Every number, date, and "how long ago" in the answer is counted for you from those posts, never guessed.

Ages from a born date

When someone has added a born date on a person's or pet's page, asking "How old is Biscuit?" or "When was Biscuit born?" answers from that date.

A full date, like March 4, 2019, gives an exact answer, such as 7 years ago. A month, like March 2019, is exact too, except during that month itself, when the answer says "about". A season or a year, like Spring 2019, gives a rough answer, such as about 7 years ago.

A date that hasn't come yet, like a baby's due date, is shown as still to come.

Without a born date, the answer can only say when they first appear in your circle's photos, so it will say "about".

A note someone added on a person's page, like Golden retriever or Mom's sister, can answer questions too.

Checking an answer

  1. Look under Where this came from. Each number there matches a number in the answer.
  2. A count or a date shows up to three of the posts it came from. Open one to see it for yourself.
  3. When there are more, a link such as and 11 more takes you to a page where you can see the rest.
  4. An answer that comes from a born date or a note links to that person's page, where you can see what was added.

Only what you can see is counted

A count only includes posts you can see. If you've hidden a post, or some older posts aren't available to you, the answer says "that you can see". It never counts posts from another circle.

If nothing in your circle matches, we'll tell you so rather than say zero.

Tags are added by people in your circle. A photo nobody tagged isn't counted as a photo of anyone.

Suggested questions

Below the box where you type your question, you may see suggested questions, such as How many photos or Recently shared. Each one appears only when your circle has something that can answer it. Choose one to ask it.
