How we suggest where a place is

Sometimes ShareLocket asks whether a place is the right one. Here is what it looks at and what you can answer.

When we ask

When several photos from posts about a place were taken near one of the places with that name, ShareLocket may ask whether that is the right one. For example, if a few photos from posts about the lake house were taken near one lake house on the map, you may be asked whether that is the one. Photos can also add a place of their own, as described below.

Only the place's name is shown. No one's photos or whereabouts are.

When a photo adds a place

When someone posts a photo that shows where it was taken, to your circle by website, email, or text, ShareLocket adds it to a place already made from photos nearby, or adds a new place named for the town or neighbourhood. This usually takes about a minute, and one photo is enough.

The pin sits at that town or neighbourhood, never where the photo was taken. Anyone in the circle can rename it, move the pin, or hide it from the place's page. After someone renames or moves it, later photos from the same spot are added to that place, and it is never renamed or moved back on its own. If someone hides it, it is hidden for everyone in the circle, and later photos from the same spot don't bring it back.

Answering a suggestion

  1. Open the place's page, or the Places page in your circle.
  2. Look for the question Is the lake house this one? (it shows the place's own name).
  3. Choose Yes, put it on the map to pin it there, Somewhere else to place the pin yourself, or Not on the map to keep it off the map.

Anyone in the circle can answer

Every member of the circle can answer, not just whoever started it. Whatever you choose, the pin can be moved or removed later from the place's page.
