Create your own chapter in a circle

Gather photos already in your circle into a chapter of your own, with a name, a cover, and the days it covers, up to 200 photos.

Why create one yourself

We group some photos into a chapter automatically — see Why are my photos grouped into a chapter? in this Help panel. But sometimes you know better: photos from a trip that arrived over several weeks, or a few favorites from one afternoon that you want under a name of your own.

Creating a chapter

  1. Open your Circle and tap Collections & more. On the Chapters row, tap Create a chapter. If your circle has no chapters yet, you can also tap Start a chapter in the row.
  2. Type a name under Name.
  3. Choose the photos to put in it. You can pick up to 200 photos.
  4. Choose a Cover from what you picked — the picture the chapter shows before anyone opens it.
  5. Tap Create chapter. On a phone, tap Create at the top.

Under When? you can choose the days the chapter covers. It's optional: leave it empty and we work the dates out from the photos. If you add a photo from outside the days you chose, the dates stretch to fit it.

To fill the days in quickly, tap One day or A weekend. If you're not sure, tap Not sure yet and the dates come from the photos. Once you've chosen days, the photos from those days are shown first under From these days. Tap Everything to see the rest.

Adding more photos later

Open the chapter and tap Add photos at the top. Choose anything else already in your Circle and it joins the chapter.

Taking a photo out

Under any photo in the chapter, tap Remove from this chapter. The photo stays in your Circle; it just leaves this chapter.

Renaming or hiding a chapter

Any chapter — one we grouped automatically or one someone created — can be renamed or hidden. Tap Rename under its cover, type the new name, and tap Save. Tap Hide this chapter to put it out of the way without deleting it; nothing is lost, and we can bring it back if you change your mind.

How others know who made it

Under a chapter's name you'll see who put it together: Made by your name for one you created, or Grouped by ShareLocket for one we grouped automatically. If other people have added their own photos, their names show there too.
