Make, hide, and merge collections

Start a collection yourself, let ShareLocket gather it or pick the posts, take one off the shelf, join two into one, and choose which collections a post is in.

Start a collection yourself

ShareLocket gathers collections from your circle's posts on its own, and anyone in the circle can start one too.

  1. Open Collections from your circle and choose Create a collection.
  2. Give it a name.
  3. Under What goes in it, choose how it fills up:
    • Let ShareLocket gather it: describe what belongs in it. Posts that fit join on their own each time someone opens it, and you can untick any that don't belong.
    • I’ll pick them: choose the posts yourself. Only the posts you pick go in.
  4. Leave Put it on the shelf ticked to show it on your circle's shelf, or untick it to keep it off.
  5. Choose Create.

A collection ShareLocket is gathering can be empty for a moment. It says it is gathering posts that fit the description, and they show up on their own.

Take a collection off the shelf

Choose Hide from the shelf on a collection, and it leaves the shelf for everyone in the circle. It saves straight away. A hidden collection still gathers posts when someone opens it, and it still opens from a link. To bring it back, choose Show on the shelf.

On the Collections page, choose Hidden to see every collection that is off the shelf.

Join two collections into one

  1. Open the collection you want to fold in and choose Merge into another collection.
  2. Choose the collection to keep.
  3. Read the message and choose Merge.

Everything from both ends up in the one you kept, and both names will still find it: old links to the other collection open the one you kept. A merge can't be undone, so take a moment before you choose Merge.

Find the collection you want

The Collections page can show All, Gathered, Made by hand, From a question, or Hidden. Each collection says how many items it has, how it was made, whether it keeps growing, and how many are new since you last looked.

Choose which collections a post is in

  1. Open the post's menu and choose Collections.
  2. Under In these collections, choose Take out to remove the post from one. It won't be put back.
  3. Choose Add to a collection to put the post in another one.
