Read what was said in a video
Videos and voice notes get written down automatically, and the person who shared one can correct the words.
Reading along
When someone shares a video or a voice note in your Circle, we write down what was said in it. Beneath the post you will see Show what was said — tap it and the words appear.
The words stay tucked away so your Circle doesn't turn into a wall of text.
The words are a machine's best guess
Until somebody has corrected them, the words carry a note saying These words were written down automatically, so they may not be exact. Names and nicknames are the usual mistakes.
Once someone has fixed them, that note goes away.
Fixing the words
If you shared the video, you will see Fix this alongside the words. It opens the text so you can put it right, and Save keeps your version. Cancel leaves everything as it was. If the words are nonsense, choose Remove and they're gone; Undo in the message that appears brings them back.
Only the person who shared a video can correct it. They're the one who knows what was said.
Your corrections stick. We never write over them with another machine attempt afterwards.
If the words are not there yet
Writing down a video takes a little time after it arrives, so a very new post may not offer the option at all. Check back shortly. If something goes wrong on our end, we'll say so.
A video with no sound at all — a screen recording, say, or a clip filmed with the sound off — has nothing to write down, so it never offers the option.
