Gift ideas in your circle

Open a gift list

Open the circle's member list and choose Gift ideas beside a person, including yourself. The person's page also shows their gift ideas when that page is available. Ideas that members type in work whether or not ShareLocket is allowed to read the circle's posts.

The circle-wide gift highlights show ideas for other active members. Your own list is never included there; open your list from the member roster to see ideas you added for yourself.

Where ideas come from

Suggested from a post identifies an automatic suggestion, with the original words and speaker beside it. Choose Open source post when a source link is available. Automatic suggestions appear only where ShareLocket is allowed to read the posts they come from.

Added by followed by a member's name identifies an idea that person added. An idea you add to your own list is visible to every active member. An idea someone else adds to your list, or an automatic suggestion about you, is not shown to you, even if you are a circle owner or co-admin. Your own view contains only ideas you added. The original source post remains readable under its usual access rules.

Add or change an idea

Under Add a gift idea, write in Gift idea and choose Add. Ideas are plain text, up to 500 characters; the count appears below the field. There are no attachments or clickable links. Choose Edit on an idea you added, then Save, or choose Cancel to leave it unchanged.

Remove an idea

Choose Remove when it is offered. You can remove your own additions. Circle owners and co-admins can also remove other members' additions and automatic suggestions they can see, but cannot remove an idea the gift recipient added for themselves. Removing an automatic suggestion leaves its post as it is, and stops that post from suggesting it again. A different post can still suggest it.

An idea remains when its creator leaves. Their name remains with it; if their membership is permanently erased, the label becomes Added by a former member. A person who leaves no longer has an available list. In a paused circle, gift ideas are read-only.

Mark an idea as got

When you've bought or made a gift, tick Got it beside the idea so nobody gets it twice. Everyone who can see the idea sees it ticked, with the name and profile picture of the person who got it. The person the gift is for never sees it, even if they are a circle owner or co-admin, and nothing tells them an idea was ticked.

1. Open the gift list.
2. Tick Got it beside the idea.
3. That's it. There is nothing to save.

If someone ticked it first, it stays theirs. Ticked ideas fold away under a line such as 2 more taken care of; choose it to see them. Choose Undo to reverse the last thing you ticked or unticked, or untick an idea any time later.

A Got it stays when the person who ticked it leaves the circle. Removing an idea removes its Got it too. In a paused circle you can see what has been got, but nothing can be ticked or unticked.

Gift-list actions, Got it included, do not send notifications, emails, or text messages. Lists can refresh while open.
