Edit a post you shared in your circle

Fix a typo or finish a thought. Change the words on a post you shared while keeping its photo and comments.

Changed your mind about the words

A typo, a misspelled name, or something to add? You can change the words without deleting the post. The photo, the date, and every comment stay where they are.

Editing your words

  1. Find the post in your circle.
  2. Choose the three dots (More) on the post, then Edit details.
  3. Under What you wrote, choose Edit.
  4. Change the words. A counter below the box shows how much room you have left.
  5. Choose Save changes.

Changed your mind halfway through? Cancel puts the original words back without saving.

There’s plenty of room: up to 50,000 characters for a written post, and up to 5,000 for a caption on a photo or video.

After you save

Below the box you’ll see: “Changes are shared with your circle. Posts used in albums also follow the album’s content checks.”

You’ll see “Changes saved.” Choose Check post to see the latest version. Media may still need time to finish processing. Existing safety holds remain in place.

If your post is also part of a sharing album, approved changes appear there too.

Which posts you can edit

You can always edit your own posts. If you started the circle, or you help look after it, you can also edit anyone’s post — handy when someone asks you to fix a typo.

A few posts don’t offer editing:

  • A post that’s still being prepared or has a safety hold.
  • A post you’ve hidden from your own feed. Choose Show first.
  • Announcements, which the circle writes for you.
  • Anything in a circle that’s been paused.

Photos you’re seeing through a sharing album

Some photos in a sharing album really live somewhere else — they came from a circle, and the sharing album is showing them rather than holding them. Those show Open source post instead of an edit box. Follow that link to the original and edit it there, and your change appears everywhere the photo is shared.
