Delete a circle
The owner of a circle can delete it for good. Everything in it is erased for everyone and can't be brought back, so keep a copy first.
Only the owner can delete a circle
Deleting a circle is for its owner, the person who looks after it. In the circle's settings, the Delete this circle card is marked Owner only, and admins and other members don't see it.
If you'd rather keep everything and just stop new posts, you can pause the circle instead. See "Would pausing suit you better?" below.
Deleting is final
When you delete a circle, it's gone straight away, for everyone. Nobody at ShareLocket can bring it back. It erases:
- Every post, photo, video, and comment.
- Every chapter and album in the circle.
- The member list.
- Everyone's posting address for the circle.
That includes what each member shared there. Their posts in the circle are gone from everything, including the download of their own account. Copies someone has already saved to their own device can't be taken back.
Everyone in the circle is told by email that it was deleted.
Premium and free months
If the circle has Premium, it ends when the circle is deleted, with no refund. Free months applied to the circle aren't returned.
Before you delete: keep a copy
Once a circle is deleted, there's nothing left to download. If you'd like a copy, get it first:
- Open the circle, choose Circle options, then Settings.
- Under Download everything in this circle, choose Prepare my download.
- We email you when it's ready. Choose Get my download in that email and save the file somewhere safe.
Everyone in the circle can prepare their own download the same way, so let them know before you delete it. See Download all of your circle's photos.
Would pausing suit you better?
Pausing keeps everything. Nothing new can be added, but everyone can still read and download what's there, and the circle can be reopened any time. Choose Pause this circle in the circle's settings. See Rename or pause a circle.
How to delete a circle
- Open the circle, choose Circle options, then Settings.
- At the bottom of This circle, under Delete this circle, choose Delete this circle….
- We ask, with your circle's name, for example Delete Sunday Dinners?, and say how many people it affects. Choose Continue, or Keep the circle to stop here.
- The second step says This is final. Type the circle's name exactly as it appears, with the same capital letters and spaces. Delete forever only works once the name matches.
- Choose Delete forever, or Keep the circle if you've changed your mind.
The circle is deleted straight away, and you're taken back to your home page.
