Owner, admins, and members

What a circle's owner, its admins, and its members can each do, and how the owner makes someone an admin or hands the circle on.

This is for anyone in a circle who wants to know who can do what. Each circle has one owner, and can have admins as well as members.

Members

Everyone in a circle can:

  • post and comment, on the website or by text, email, or phone call;
  • edit or delete their own posts;
  • choose how they hear from the circle, and how much of their location it sees;
  • add Premium to the circle, or add months to it;
  • leave whenever they like.

Admins

Admins help look after the circle. On the Members page, an admin is shown as Administrator. As well as everything a member can do, an admin can:

  • invite people, send an invitation again, or take it back;
  • remove members, but not other admins;
  • edit or delete anyone's post;
  • change the circle's name and picture, set up picture frames, and pause or reopen the circle.

The owner

The owner is usually the person who started the circle, and there's one at a time. As well as everything an admin can do, only the owner can:

  • make someone an admin, or make an admin a member again;
  • remove an admin;
  • choose who stays active when the circle's Premium is ending;
  • delete the circle.

The owner can't be removed. To stop being the owner, hand the circle to someone else as you leave. See Hand your circle to someone else.

Make someone an admin

You need to be the owner.

  1. Open your circle, choose Circle options, then Members.
  2. Use the dropdown beside their name to choose Administrator, or Member to change them back.

The change saves as soon as you choose it. Roles can't be changed while the circle is paused.

Paying isn't a role

Any member can pay for Premium, whatever their role. See Who pays for Premium?
