Why can't I add this phone number?
Some phone numbers — like landlines — can't receive text messages. Here's what to do if yours isn't being accepted.
Why your phone number might not be accepted
ShareLocket sends a short text message to your phone number to confirm it's really yours — both when you sign up and when you invite someone by text. For that to work, the number has to be a mobile number that can actually receive text messages.
Some phone numbers aren't set up to receive texts. These include:
- Landlines — home or office phones that ring on a physical handset.
- Numbers that have been ported or reassigned — numbers that look like mobile numbers but are connected to a service that doesn't support incoming texts.
- Toll-free or specialty numbers — like 1-800 numbers or business lines.
If the number you entered falls into one of these categories, we'll let you know so you can try a different one.
What to do
- Double-check the number. Make sure you didn't accidentally enter a home number or skip a digit. A single wrong digit is the most common reason a number doesn't go through.
- Use a mobile number. A number on your mobile phone — the one that rings in your pocket — will work best.
- Try a different number. If you have a second mobile number (like a work phone), try that one instead.
