Delete your account

How to delete your account, the 72-hour window to change your mind, and what happens to albums and to what you shared in circles.

Deleting Your Account

We're sorry to see you go. If you'd like to permanently delete your account, here's how.

Before you start, make sure your email address or phone number is confirmed. We need one to send you a link to keep your account if you change your mind. You'll find both under Staying in touch on your profile.

  1. Go to Your Profile.
  2. Scroll down to Delete my account and tap the button with the same name.
  3. Read what will happen, and type DELETE MY ACCOUNT to confirm.
  4. Show us it's you. If your account has a password, enter it under Your password. If you sign in with Google, Apple, a passkey, or a code, there's no password to enter: tap Confirm with your passkey, or tap Send me a code and type it under Enter the 6-digit code. We'll email the code to your verified email address, or text it to your verified phone if you don't have one.
  5. Tap Delete my account. If you confirmed with your passkey, you're already done.

What happens next

Your account enters a 72-hour waiting period. During this time, your account is paused but nothing is deleted yet.

  • Changed your mind? Use the link we sent you when you asked to delete your account. It went to each email address you've confirmed, and by text to your confirmed phone number. Tap it any time during those 72 hours and everything goes back to normal. Once we've started removing your account, though, it can't be brought back, so it's best to do this soon.
  • After 72 hours, your account and profile are permanently deleted. This cannot be undone.

What is deleted, and what stays

  • The sharing albums you own are deleted, along with everything in them.
  • An album you made in someone else's circle passes to that circle's owner.
  • Posts, photos, and comments you shared in a circle or in someone else's sharing album stay there for the others, without your name.

We also remove your profile picture, saved crop, and link to the picture. This includes pictures imported from Apple or Google. We arrange to delete the file and try again if deletion fails. Files needed for safety or moderation reviews are kept while those reviews are in place. Cached copies may remain visible until they expire.

When it's all done, we'll send you one last email to let you know — or a text, if we can't email you.

Tip: If you just want to take a break, you can simply log out. Your albums and memories will be right where you left them when you come back.
